Adios August!

I think it's safe to say that August has ended not with a bang but a whimper. Mostly my whimper. Please let school start soon! For real! For both kids! Actually, that's not entirely fair. I was keeping  up fairly well with the death march of summer activities going into this home stretch. We had an after school SGP playdate, ice cream treats, a little Corona fun with German and Valentina and then a weekend bonanza to complete the month. Juliet's 7th birthday pool party was a lot of fun even if the sun didn't heat the water up as much as I would have liked. My girls got in and I joined them a few times to keep my circulation going. The tacos from Taqueria Santa Fe definitely helped liven things up and by the end of the afternoon, we were still raring for more action. So off to SGP we went for another few hours of summer sunshine. The following morning I got a text from Irene that she was planning a trip into the city to the South Street Seaport's Imagination Playground and did we want to join. At that point, I was on Day 4 with no Nacho around, so I was vacillating between sure-why-not and oh-fuck-no-let-me-sleep-or-die. It was hard to decide which way to go, but with another bright day outside and the prospect of school all week long, I figured Elisa would enjoy a bit of summer that day. I was almost right. Mostly, my children fought each other and me. It was one of those long, tedious days punctuated by lots of threats and calming Carolina down while I tried to figure out why Elisa was being so mean to her sister. Playing the role of big sister to German and Alegria was part of what bothered Carolina, but not all. No, it started way before that and ended when we managed to pull ourselves away from the group and head home early. I couldn't take any more and it was almost 6pm. So I packed it in, grabbed a frappucino and took the little monsters back on the subway by myself. And of course they giggled and played and generally loved one another the whole. way. home. Because summer.
