Kicking off Summer

This year the weekend after school let out was not without it's drama. First there was Carolina's ER visit to check out her swollen jaw/chin.

Week from Hell

From last Saturday until yesterday was one of the worst weeks on record. For lots of reasons. Starting with an excruciating outing to Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge with the girls for a little pre-Father's Day fun which turned into a screamy cryfest over bugs. And then there was a dinner at the new bar and restaurant The Lowery which was marred by the girls inability to sit and enjoy their meal without making me crazy. Sunday was a beautiful dance recital in which both my girls shined, but it was also a long day of working--taking photos for the studio--and having to sit through two performances which didn't end until almost 5pm. Dinner out at Center Point was good, but we were all so wrecked I think it was mostly a survival meal. Yes, everything good had its ugly underbelly and that was never more apparent than this week. And my patience was wearing thin with Nacho gone most of the week from Monday to Thursday late. I can usually suck it up and tolerate this solo parenting stuff, but this week I could have used the support and so I just had to tough it out and wait. Fortunately, there was a light at the end of Friday night--drinks for Jamie's birthday on a rooftop in LIC. Woo hoo!
Pizza and ices at New Park Pizza in Howard Beach--the only redeeming thing about our trip to Jamaica Bay
The full moon must be the reason for all the craziness, right?
Father's Day complete--dancing, lunch in Corona park and then Thai dinner!
Graduation photos at AOC! Congrats to our first set of graduating 5th graders!
Last days for both Carolina and Elisa on Friday...the end is here!
So, so needed...drinks and good convos with my homegirls
Except that we woke up to this sight! OUCH!
Of course it felt like no good deed could go unpunished this week and even Friday night's fun was marred by waking up to Carolina's swollen jaw/chin on Saturday morning. Our new sitter had texted while we were out that Carolina fell and was icing down her chin. But since she was asleep laying flat when we got home, I didn't notice the incredible swelling until she was up the next day. Coupled with the fact that she wasn't opening her mouth and talked only through her teeth, I decided that we needed to get this checked out. The pediatrician confirmed and so we were off to the ER at NY Presbyterian around 10:00am. Good times. Of course she was acting much more normal and moving her jaw more by the time we saw the doctor so no X-ray was ordered. We got a pat on the head and sent off with just some ibuprofen for her tenderness. After all that stress, I decided milk shakes to soothe us were in order so we stopped by Bareburger in LIC before coming home to rest up. We finished the night with dinner on Carmen's rooftop terrace and a little playtime in the park down below after sunset. The kids had a great time hanging out and it was another beautiful evening overlooking the city. After this week, I think I needed it.
