Jumpin July

June ended. July started. So far that means birthday parties back to back and lots of time at SGP.  That park is my only sanity saver. I really couldn't survive these endless days on my own without that break from both girls. They play so well without much interference that I can get some mental space. Because honestly, solo parenting with two kids for most of the summer isn't going to be a picnic. Nacho keeps coming home and leaving again. Training is going well, but it isn't over yet. Two more weeks and then hopefully he'll have a few weeks off while they schedule his IOE flights.  And in the meantime, the summer has started in earnest and this is the only one we get for 2015. So I'm trying to pack it all in. On Friday we took the East River Ferry to DUMBO with Irene and Jose and family. It was a beautiful morning for it and even though they threw us a curveball with the weekend schedule (and pricing!) we managed to make it there and back without too many issues. The kids played all over Brooklyn Bridge Park and we picnicked on Shake Shack under the cover of the benches in front of Jane's Carousel. Later we switched into bathing suits and the girls ran wild in the pop up fountain as part of the Please Touch the Art exhibit.  We found another playground and grabbed ice cream before jumping back on the ferry to Queens. It was a perfectly urban summer day and just the kind of thing I hope to do much more of this month and next.
