Elisa's Plan

Another weekend day to fill and no real agenda. Except that this morning it wasn't snowing and slushy and we didn't have to rush Elisa out to Girl Scouts like yesterday. So we woke around 8:45 a.m. (a complete miracle) and enjoyed a leisurely big breakfast. After that, I even volunteered to play "dollies" with the girls for a bit while we paced ourselves. What would make us leave the house today? I thought I would ask them for a change and Elisa had a surprisingly clear vision for the day. She wanted to go into the city, maybe to a park, and have lunch at a restaurant and eat chicken. So there you have it. We followed her directions to a T. Only we ate the chicken first. And it was delicious. When Nacho mentioned trying Bon Chon, a Korean fried chicken place in K-town, I knew he was onto something. Elisa loves the chicken we get from UFC in Jackson Heights, and this I had heard was even better. So off we went on the train(s) and by the time we made it there, I was good and hungry. We got wings, drums and some chicken strips with french fries and the requisite white rice for Carolina. The hot wings were good and spicy, but the chicken itself didn't seem as plump and juicy as UFC's. In fact, it left me kind of wishing we'd just headed further into Queens. But hey, you have to rule everything out, I suppose. And the beer didn't taste bad washing it all down. So afterwards, we walked down towards Madison Square Park for a little playground time and then over to the marble snowmen decorating the narrow pedestrian strip in front of the Flatiron building. I had heard about these statues from a friend on FB yesterday after posting our pics with the silly snowman of Lou Lodati. And these were definitely fun to pose with and make faces at. The girls kept photobombing unsuspecting couples until we pulled them away and off to the Lego store across the street. About that time there was a lot of commotion and police cars, ambulances and such pulling up half a block away down 23rd Street. What we didn't know at the time was there had been a murder-suicide at the Home Depot store just across from the Lego store. Still there was a funny feeling to all the police presence and part of me was debating about walking a little more in the city when suddenly I just felt like it was time to leave. And so we did. The girls came back tired and happily worn out after a big day in the city. The temperatures were so mild, in fact, that I'm kind of feeling duped about this whole impending snowpocalypse headed our way. Tomorrow evening into Tuesday morning we are supposed to get 18-24 inches of snow. Those poor marble statues aren't going to know what hit them.
