June jumble

As I might have mentioned, things are a little out of order lately. Maybe it's a sign of how my brain feels at this moment. May ended in a whirl of activity (Memorial Day/Spring Concert/NC Trip) that we are barely recovered from that and now it's almost time for the end of school and another trip to Spain. It's a lot to think about and the planning has already started. Nacho's cousin Amaia is getting married on the last Saturday of the month and we have tickets and dresses (YAY! the important stuff, right?) bought and are looking forward to a little pool time with the cousins. Oh yeah, and Elisa and Carolina both had another swim lesson last weekend, but more on that soon.
So yeah, I'm gearing up and trying to keep the wheels turning even though sometimes that's hard to do when it's gray and gloomy and you have a sick kid. Carolina wasn't feeling so hot last week and with three days of 102+ temps, I thought it was time to get her checked out. So off she and I went last Thursday for a little visit to the pediatrician and a Shake Shack lunch. It was actually her best day of the week, so I thought things were improving but it was nice to hear that she didn't have strep just a nasty virus. We ate during a break in the misty rain and then headed home for a long nap. Rest is just what we needed.
Post school is a tricky time and some days you will find us at one of the area parks. Elisa is usually good for about 20-30 minutes and then it all starts to deteriorate. But the other day there were water balloons and that seemed to make her happy, even if I hate them. She mostly just sprayed the trees and ground. Whatever floats your boat.
And Friday we were supposed to have a half day and go for a little pizza lunch with Birdie and Jasper. It was all planned out so well. I would go to their bus stop early and we could all make our way over to Skillman's Famous Pizza after about 12:15pm. But of course, that would be the one day that the bus driver got double booked with another route. Funny, I remember this happening another time on a half day. Thankfully, we received an email from the school indicating the delay, but none of us could really fathom it would take a full HOUR for the kids to arrive. But it did. Yeah, that wasn't exactly what I had planned, but it gave Carolina and her friends some time to walk the dog that was waiting more patiently than all of us. They were thrilled. See, there IS a silver lining sometimes.
We ended the week on a much sunnier note and the chance to join in our annual Friday Night BBQs at the park. Our email chains have started up again as the summer season kicked off in June and it's another reminder why we like this neighborhood and our friends so much. In honor of National Donut Day, I made a "donut" cake with a chocolate glaze and sprinkles (of course). It was a hit and our Trader Joe's grocery run earlier in the week supplied the rest of the goodies--hamburgers, corn on the cob and lots of chips and dip. The week ended on a perfect note with a whole weekend of fun ahead. What more could you ask for?
